Enoshima is a small island near the cities of Fujisawa and Kamakura, about an hour’s drive from Tokyo Station. It often appears in photos of Mount Fuji.

Tokyo - Enoshima

From Tokyo, you can take a train to Ofuna Station and transfer to the Shonan Monorail to Shonan Enoshima Station. From there, walk along the shore and explore the surrounding area (for example, have breakfast at Enoshima Koya), then cross Benten Bridge to reach the island.

Enoshima

The route continues through shopping streets. After Enoshima Harumi, turn right and stroll toward Nishiura Fishing Port. If you’re lucky, you’ll see Mount Fuji without clouds. Then return to the main street and the main torii gates of Enoshima Shrine. You can go higher for free on foot, or take the escalator for 500 yen.

Temples

On the first level of Enoshima Shrine, Hetsumiya, the next shrine, Enoshima Shrine Nakatsunomiya, is slightly higher up. On the second level, there are fortune-telling signs that only become visible when wet. You can also take a coffee break here and enjoy a view of the surrounding area.

Sea Candle

Through the park to the island’s highest point — Enoshima Sea Candle. This is a lighthouse with an open viewing deck and an elevator. After all the inspections, head further to the western part of the island, past the souvenir shops, and take in the views of the cliffs and waves.

Caves

Along the shore, we pass through several tunnels in caves (Enoshima Iwaya Cave). There is plenty of lighting, so you won’t be scared.

You can enjoy the sunset at Uomitei, with a backdrop of local craft and fresh seafood.
